Fort Jessup State Commemorative Area
Was originally a fort on the border of the United States and Spanish Texas, now the symbol of New Spain in Louisiana.
Feb 28 - Mar 3, Fort Jesup State Historic Site, Many - Frontier History Symposium: 180th Anniversary, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., each day. The Thursday/Friday schedule will offer lectures and discussions of the Western Frontier, Historical Archeology and Living History Demonstrations. On Saturday and Sunday, visitors can see living history demonstrations presenting the founding of Fort Jesup, military drills and day-to-day life as a soldier in a border fort during the 1800s. Mansfield State Commemorative Area
Site of major Confederate victory in the Civil War.
